As one of the first and few Professional Organizers in Mexico, a country where the industry has not blossomed yet, finding variety in organizing products has been quite an adventure. Don’t get me wrong; we have specialized stores. I can find some useful solutions for my clients there, but I have to drive through the hectic traffic of Mexico City. Depending on the necessity, I have to go from store to store collecting the different containers. (If we only had The Container Store, my life would be so much easier.) I know it must be quite interesting for other organizers and people curious about this career in a different country. So, I bring you my 5 favorite organizing products.

Garage Organizing

Definitely, these plastic boxes are one of my most used and favorite garage organizing products. They are water-resistant and perfect for keeping the dust away from treasured belongings. They are easy to handle, come in joyful colors, and fit a lot of stuff. I use these for garage storage mainly. But you can use it for keeping children’s art, tool supplies, scrapbook material, you name it!

Office Organizing

This desktop sorter is one of my favorite office organizing products. I began using it in my home office. Now, I encourage all my clients to use it in their homes and offices too. It is one of the only accessories I advise them to have on top of the desk. As you can see, it is the perfect way to have the incoming paper “divided” into categories such as File, Scan, Active Reading, and Low/High Priority Action. That way, they don’t have a pile of papers taking up valued space on the desk, which is preferably used to (actually) work.

Craft Organizing

In Mexico, we have places called “mercados” which are marketplaces. They sell fresh produce, home cleaning products, flowers, traditional Mexican food, and handmade crafts of all kinds. They have what we call “canastas” which are baskets made of a material called “mimbre.” I use them for closet organizing, but they work perfectly for storing crafting material if your client does not like plastic containers and wants a more organic style.

Closet Organizing

You probably think that choosing hangers as my favorite closet organizing product is boring. But I am a big believer that uniformity in a closet makes all the difference. When my clients are finished with the decluttering stage, the visual impact is most powerful when replacing the old mishmash of unmatched hangers with brand new hangers, all of the same style and color. And if we don’t have enough space for purses, we use the new hangers to hang them!

Holiday Organizing

When I work with clients and their holiday decorations, they tell me that they forget every year which Christmas decorations they already have. A lot of time they end up buying doubles. My favorite holiday organizing products are clear plastic boxes. They contain all the Christmas things and we can see what is in them. Of course, I label the bins, but actually seeing everything gives the client a better idea of what they have without taking everything out of the container. And it looks kind of cute, doesn’t it? It’s a great way to wait 11 long months for the holidays. Plus, the items will be safe and sound and look fabulous!
