Commonly Asked Questions

How do you help people?

We encourage people to help themselves.  We ask you to think about these three statements:

  • Love what you keep, keep what you love.
  • Use it or lose it.
  • When in doubt, throw it out.

Together, we figure out exactly what you’d like to see accomplished and modified. Then we implement a plan and a system – and we work as a team. Metropolitan Organizing® will make a list of recommended organizational tools and where to buy them, or we can shop for you.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised how invigorating and restorative the process can be. And the end results are even better – the satisfaction of completion, a sense of fulfillment and the pleasure of peaceful surroundings.

How long do most projects take?

We work quickly and waste no time. The length of time depends on you, your situation and your expectations. We typically work in four- to six-hour blocks of time.

What's the process like? What can I expect?

First, we perform an initial assessment over the phone, and talk with you about your priorities and personality.  We come up with a plan that will work best for you and your situation.
Then at our first meeting, we will do a whlole-house tour and get started with hands-on organizing.  We will continue to book appointments and work together until the task is completed.

What's your best kept secret ?

We’d have to say light and lighting. Most people don’t consider lighting as a crucial element of their home or office. Lighting can create a relaxing mood in one room, elegant ambiance in another, even a sense of utility in a workspace.

We find that small changes in basic lighting can improve the way you and others experience your home and office. For example, most bathroom vanities are lit from above; this harsh lighting creates shadows your face and is ill-suited for applying makeup. In an office environment, most desk lamps create computer screen glare, which is irritating to the eyes. The changes we recommend are generally subtle and inexpensive.

What are the costs and payment options?

Metropolitan Organizing accepts checks, MasterCard, Visa and Discover. Payment is at the time of service and a deposit may be required. We typically work in four- and six-hour blocks of time per session.   The number of sessions varies based on client needs.
