What do Professional Organizers Want for Christmas? (1st in a series)

Juliet Landau-Pope, a Professional Organizing Coach in London, England Shares Her Holiday Wishes

GT:  Juliet, what do you want for Christmas?

JLP:  As my friends and relatives already know, choosing a gift for a professional declutterer is a major challenge! Since I spend so much time helping people sort their surplus stuff, I’ve developed an aversion to acquiring things that I don’t really need or appreciate. So what I’d like more than anything this holiday is simply to spend time with the people who matter most to me, and to celebrate the miracles of friendship, community, health and happiness.

GT: How will you celebrate the New Year?

JLP:  Last year I spent New Years’ Eve with close friends who were so organized that they sent out party invitations in September! I don’t yet have any plans this year but might do something spontaneous! Sometimes it’s liberating to leave space in the diary because you never know what will turn up!

GT: What is your favourite holiday tradition?

JLP:  For my family, Christmas has become synonymous with the most exciting and innovative event in the Anglo-Jewish calendar – a conference called Limmud!

We will be spending four days (and nights) on a university campus, taking part in lectures, performances, workshops and meeting up with old friends and new. I’ll also be presenting a session called ‘Declutter Your Home and Your Life’.

GT: Do you have any special wishes or resolutions?

JLP: I’m excited about finding new ways in 2013 to motivate and mobilize others, such as new workshops on overcoming procrastination in the workplace.

On a personal level, my main resolution is to follow more of the advice that I share with others! My most vital wish is to focus more on being rather than doing. Now that’s really walking the talk!
